Where are you headed?
Denver, New York, first time upstate this summer. I’ve been in the Hamptons. This Trailways situation, I can tell, is very different than the LIRR.

How so?
On the LIRR, people are dicks. Recently, I got in an argument with a guy who had his suitcase on two seats. I said, “Do you mind if I sit?” And he said, “Where will I put my bag?” I said, “Does your bag have a ticket?”

Good comeback.
Yeah, well, that train is just aggro. Meanwhile, we’ve been waiting awhile here, and these Trailways people are dead silent. This bus, I can tell, is not aggro.

Where are you headed?
A house I bought in Palenville. Wherever I go starts out quiet, then come the masses. I’m the one who got everyone into Carroll Gardens.

What will you do on the ride?
My philosophy reading, I think. I’m semi-retired, so I take classes at CUNY. On my last bus ride, I wrote a poem about nature.

Any specific plans?
I’m going on a two-day silent-meditation retreat. Usually, my retreats are a week long. So this is just a little toe dip, really.
